My first 40-Day Habit for Lasting Change

Join me on my journey as I explore the power of 40-day habits. This is my first blog on my 40-day walking challenge. We can inspire each other to create positive changes in our lives, one habit at a time.

40-days, 40-walks: Putting my best foot forward!

They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Well, my journey began with frantically digging through my wardrobe for my long-forgotten daps and realising they were more “vintage” than I’d remembered. We all start somewhere, right?

Why I’m Doing This

Now, I'm no Kevin Sinfield, I haven't walked further than our local pub in years, but for someone who’s spent more time sitting than a houseplant lately. I want to lose weight, get fitter, and clear my mind—and walking is an easy way to kick off this journey.

Also, have you ever noticed how walking is like a moving meditation? It’s just you, the world, and occasionally dodging a rogue cyclist or a dog walker whose pet thinks your leg is a chew toy. I live in a small village in Cyprus with amazing scenery which hopefully I'll show you over the next 40 days.

The Benefits of Walking:

I've done some homework (read Google while eating snacks!), and this is why I chose walking.

  • It’s Good for Your Body: It's going to keep my body healthy and help me lose weight (hello, calves!).

  • It’s a Stress Buster: It reduces stress and cheers you up. I’ll take that over doomscrolling any day.

  • It’s Totally Doable: No fancy equipment is needed—just feet, a comfy pair of shoes, and determination.

My Plan:
For the next 40 days, I’ll be doing a daily walk. Rain or shine, I’ll lace up my daps and hit the pavement. My plan includes:

  • Step Goals: Starting small with 5,000 steps and working up to 10,000, I'll take my tracker next time!!

  • Timing: Morning walks to start my day (if I can get out of bed) or evening strolls to unwind.

Challenges?
Let’s be honest—it won’t all be rainbows and smooth pavements. I can see a few hurdles:

  • Weather Woes: Rain? Wind? Extreme heat? Bring it on (and maybe an umbrella).

  • Time Management: Getting my butt out of bed early will be… interesting.

  • Motivation Dips: Some days, my bed might win the battle.
